Road Safety Action Plan

The Road Safety Action Plan was the result of a series of outreach meetings, public comment, and the contributions of more than 50 partners and advisory group members. This is a data-driven document that outlines key steps to take towards zero traffic fatalities and serious injuries on Seattle roads. I was lead staff for this priority initiative of the Seattle Mayor's Office. I worked with stakeholders, including a robust advisory group, analyzed data and policies, led communications, and co-prepared this document with Jim Curtin of the Seattle Department of Transportation, with input from numerous departments and public agencies.

{Introductory letter from Mayor McGinn}
The focus of the Road Safety Action Plan was two-fold: to create a culture of empathy among everyone traveling Seattle's roads, and to lay out a data-driven approach to addressing the most common causes of collisions: speeding, impairment, distraction, and lack of knowledge of the rules of the road. Roadway design was also addressed.
The overarching goal: zero traffic fatalities and serious injuries on Seattle roadways.
